Nikola Šućur for InStore: Food Is a Choice – What We Eat Is What We Become

Nikola Šućur, Marketing Director, BFF, shared his vision about how responsible nutrition shapes the way we choose food in his recent InStore Srbija column, highlighting why responsibility, health, and trust stand at the core of everything we do.

Read the full column, originally published on the InStore website.

Every part of the meal had its purpose: mint was “for the stomach,” soup “for a cold,” spinach “for iron,” walnuts “for the brain.” I didn’t see it as a trend but as a persistent reminder from my parents that every ingredient has a role. Only later did I understand how true that simple logic was.

Today, when I stand in front of a supermarket shelf, I see those same messages returning — only in new packaging. Labels now say “no sugar,” “high in fiber,” “plant-based.” But often, those very claims can be misleading. “No added sugar” means there’s none – but it doesn’t say what is inside, or how that other stuff might affect our health. That’s why my advice is simple: read the labels carefully. Don’t trust only the big letters on the front of the packaging.

I’m privileged to work at Baby Food Factory, where our labels are transparent and there are no hidden ingredients. We make sure that every puree, snack, or meal is simple, clean, and clear. Our vision is for parents and adults to know exactly what they’re getting — and to be confident that their choice truly does good. I know that’s not the easy path; it’s often the more expensive and demanding one – but I believe it’s the only right one.

Our shopping basket reveals much more about us than we think – when we’re tired or stressed, we reach for something quick, usually not so healthy. When we crave a fresh start, we choose fruit, vegetables, something whole-grain. Food has become an extension of our identity, a reflection of our wishes and worries.

Experience has taught me that food doesn’t just follow age – it follows lifestyle. As a child, I’d be given an apple “to stay healthy.” Today, I see that the same rule applies to adults – only now, the apple is sometimes replaced by a practical meal that fuels us between meetings or a healthy snack on the go. Food changes with us, adapts to our habits and needs, yet stays true to its basic purpose – to be our ally.

The truth is, we’ve never had more choices, yet we’ve never been more confused. We want natural and simple, but also convenient and fast. We want pleasure, but also health. We make compromises – yet every small choice has consequences. I’ve been through that myself — there were times when coffee was my “breakfast,” and chewing gum my “snack.” Only when I changed those habits did I realize how just a few minutes for a proper breakfast can transform the whole day. Small wins, when repeated, become big change.

Health through nutrition doesn’t happen through revolution, but evolution. It’s built on small, consistent decisions – a glass of water instead of soda, fruit instead of chips, five extra minutes for a meal instead of eating on the go. Innovations in food production are moving in that direction: to make our decisions easier, to connect tradition with modern needs, to offer solutions that are not tricks – but true support.

Unfortunately, there are too many tricks in the market today – so be cautious.

At the end of May, we carried out an activation called Merchandising Impact Teams (MIT 2025), in support of one of our factory’s biggest launches this year – the Nutrino Lab Energy Boost product line.

MIT 2025 brought together more than 130 colleagues from various Nelt sectors in the Serbian market and from our factory.

Through engagement and joint fieldwork aimed at increasing product visibility, 50 teams were formed, visiting 30 cities across Serbia over the course of two weeks.

With the help of experienced sales colleagues who took on the role of team leaders, 460 outlets were merchandised, 400 inserters and 380 “parasites” were installed – all accompanied by plenty of good energy, smiles, and shared learning.

Nutrino Lab Energy Boost is the creator of an entirely new category on the market, bringing with it a natural source of energy. This activation was an opportunity to bring that message directly to the market – together.

“This activation is an excellent example of how teamwork, clearly defined goals, and mutual support can contribute to the successful launch of a new product. An innovative approach, the dedication of all teams, and great cooperation between different sectors once again confirmed the strength of collective action. I would like to thank all my colleagues for the professionalism, enthusiasm, and team spirit they brought to this project,” said Zorica Arizanović, Portfolio Manager.

The MIT 2025 activation demonstrated just how successful our team synergy can be.

Thank you to all colleagues who participated in this activation! Fantastic results were achieved, once again proving that great teams make a big difference.

Marina Bulut, CEO of Baby Food Factory, spoke to InStore magazine about the development of Nutrino Lab Energy Boost—a new product line from our factory—highlighting innovations at BFF and sharing plans for the future.

The full interview, originally published in InStore magazine, is featured below.

Known for its high standards of quality and production of healthy food for all generations, Baby Food Factory, a member of the Nelt Group, has taken a step into a new category with the launch of Nutrino Lab Energy Boost. This all-natural line of energy snacks represents a fusion of nature and science, designed to provide a simple, functional, and accessible source of natural energy for everyday life.

We spoke with Marina Bulut, CEO of the company, about how the idea for this product came about, why innovation is essential, what the development process looks like, and what it means to produce food to the highest standards.

How did the development of the new Nutrino Lab Energy Boost line come about?
We all need energy—whether in our personal or professional lives. Since our mission is to bring naturally high-quality products into people’s everyday routines, the idea was born to offer energy that is not only effective but also natural, healthy, and tasty. That’s how Nutrino Lab Energy Boost was created—a snack that combines the power of natural ingredients, convenience, and nutritional value. It was developed through dedication, expertise, and a firm belief in uncompromising quality. The product delivers energy from nature to support both body and mind, and it’s an optimal snack solution for people on the go—at work, or during any quick break.

What makes these products innovative compared to what’s currently on the market?
This is a completely natural energy snack—free from added sugar, gluten, artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives—and 100% vegan. The innovation lies in the approach as well: we use plant-based sources of caffeine such as matcha, black tea, and guarana, combined with fruit to ensure balanced taste and nutritional value. The product comes in a convenient pouch format, ideal for on-the-go consumption. Each variant—Matcha Energy Boost, Plenty Energy Boost, and Strong Energy Boost—is designed to meet different energy needs throughout the day.

How important is innovation in the food industry today?
It’s critical—you simply can’t afford not to innovate or stay ahead of trends. Innovation is what separates top players from average ones. Competition is global, the market is more demanding, and consumers are better informed. They’re looking for lifestyle solutions, food quality, and dietary concepts. In our case, innovation means combining usefulness, functionality, and responsibility toward both health and the environment. Nutrino Lab Energy Boost is an example of how strategic thinking can create an entirely new category of functional products designed to meet the real needs of today’s consumers—to stay energized, focused, and balanced.

What is unique about the production of Nutrino Lab products?
At BFF, every product is made under the same conditions required for baby food production, which means applying the most advanced safety and hygiene protocols. Our production is highly automated and fully enclosed, eliminating external influence and ensuring complete process control. Our entire facility—including the R&D center and logistics corridors—is built to cleanroom standards, featuring air filtration systems that remove dust and other potential contaminants. This cleanroom technology, typically found in the pharmaceutical industry, operating rooms, and microelectronics, is a rarity in the food industry and reflects our conscious decision to set standards above the norm. For the end consumer, this means added safety and trust in what they’re consuming—because for us, quality and safety are never compromises, but the foundation of every product we make.

What are your plans for the future?
Our focus remains on further developing top-quality products that offer natural support to the human body. Nutrino Lab Energy Boost is proof that dedication, responsibility, and the power of nature can serve the modern lifestyle. At the same time, we continue to grow and improve our Nutrino brand, which remains the number one baby food brand in the market—strengthening its growth and the trust parents place in it every day.

In mid-May, more than 50 students from Harvard University visited Nelt’s headquarters in Dobanovci. As part of their “Balkan Track” study program, they traveled across the region to learn more about successful companies and the development of the Balkans.

The students were welcomed by Miloš Jelić, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, after which they were introduced to the business and growth of the Nelt Group through a presentation by Darko Lukić, CEO of Nelt Group.

“Balkan Track is focused on the future of the region, and Nelt is a great example of how a family-owned company can grow sustainably while staying in step with global trends. The students came eager to learn, but also to ask serious questions—and it’s exactly that kind of exchange that makes these encounters so valuable. The conversation with them was equally inspiring for both sides,” said Darko.

During a tour of our Baby Food Factory, Marina Bulut, CEO of BFF, spoke about the factory’s production processes and brand portfolio.

This is the second year in a row that Harvard has included Nelt in its study program. Last year’s visit, which involved a smaller group of students, was ranked as one of the most valuable experiences of the trip.

Through its long-term commitment to education, the Nelt Group continues to support young people through a variety of programs—ranging from scholarships and student teams to partnerships with universities and institutions, including a collaboration with UNICEF—aimed at developing the skills and knowledge needed for the 21st century.
